With my Dragon |
Only the second 2013 indoor run but I was delighted by the outcome in Cardiff on Sunday. I won the Welsh Grand Prix Indoor International 300 metres in a Welsh All comers Indoor record. Representing England in the annual Celtic Cup, I beat the Wales International Joe Thomas, who was in the British team at Gothenburg, by a full second in 33.97 breaking the ten year old record of 34.01 held by Matt Ellias. The atmosphere in Cardiff and the performances by the England team was great. To top it all, I won the top prize of £300 and a Welsh dragon!
This was my final indoor outing for this season and now the hard work really starts, concentrating on a place in the Great Britain team to compete in European under 23 championships. I am really looking forward to my first 400m hurdles outdoor hurdles race in the Crawley open meeting on the 14th April. This will be a real indication how my winter training is going. The speed is good, as indicated in my indoor races and the stride pattern has improved from last year. I now just have to reproduce this in competitive races. After Crawley I am off to Spain for three weeks training (cannot wait) and then straight into racing with the first BAL meeting in Lee Valley followed by a trip to Portugal with Shaftsbury Barnet to compete in the European Club Cup!

I just pray that the weather improves. Last year, my first race outdoors was in Parliament Hill where it was gloomy, rained all day with a added delight of a gale! Never again!
