It has been a very busy January. With Chris, training has been going very well and my times have improve compared to this time last year. Very encouraging and makes all the hard winter training worthwhile.
My first senior competition was the SEAA Indoor Championship at Lee Valley. Very pleased in reaching the semi final of the 200m with a time of 22.6. I came third in the semi final, just missing out a place in the final. Long jump at Lee Valley was the usual disappointment with 5 no jumps. I never long jump well in Lea Valley but I still managed to come 4th with J.J. Jegede, the senior long jump international, winning the event.
I am delighted to have received an invitation to the Aviva UK Indoor European Trials and Championships in Sheffield next weekend, competing in the 400m. I am using this occasion as an excellent opportunity to gain experience competing at a high level, with top senior athletes. Also great news for the Amy Barclay (‘the Baby of our Group’), Charis O’Connor and Nick Duggan who have also been selected to compete in these championships.
Three days after Sheffield, I am off to Hungary for a week (with Steve) to train with Jana and Dana Veldakova the international long jump and triple jumpers. I will also be competing in the 400m and long jump at the Slovakian Indoor Championship. This will be a fantastic experience although I am not looking forward to the sub-zero arctic conditions!!
The good new is that ASDA have nominated me to their Athlete Programme.
