Competed in my first Senior Decathlon competition in Woodford Green and I was pleased to come away with a new Sussex County Decathlon record with a points score of 6923.
I was delighted to see that all the hard winter training with Chris and Jono was paying off. Against top senior athletes including Daniel Awde, who competed in the Beijing Olympics, one of my highlights was running the 400m in 47.93, second time that I have ran under 48 seconds. Despite the rain and wind, I had PB's in the 110m Hurdles, Shot Putt, and Javelin finishing the two days of competition in third place, having set a new Sussex County Decathlon record which also placed me at the top of the county all time list.
I was very pleased with my first senior competition especially considering I am competing against men who are much older and more experienced, and I am still getting used to the new heavier weights in the discus and shot and running higher hurdles. My next target is to break the 7000 points barrier in July at the SEAA Competition in July.
I am still considering this as a development year to make improvements in my weaker events like pole vault, shot and discus. In pole vault, I am already clearing 4.30m in training but I now need to jump the same height in competitions.
The Sussex Championships went well coming second in 4 events and winning the Long Jump competition.
I was honoured to have been asked by Eastbourne College to present the awards at their annual sports day. It was good to feel that I might have encouraged some student to compete in athletics.
Really pleased with the article about me in the May edition of the ETC magazine. Hopefully this will help me generate some support and funding!
Finally, I wish to thank Chris and Steph for all their help and support!
